cultural connection.

unique melbourne home featured in est magazine. / sfgirlbybay

this is simply a stunning home recently featured on EST magazine. it’s such an interesting connection of different cultures — the house is in melbourne, australia, but i feel like it’s got both a scandinavian and a very japanese vibe going on. a friend recently told me that the reason both scandinavian and japanese design have such a similar aesthetic of simplicity, clean lines, light natural wood and openness is due in fact to both countries’ history of a scarcity of resources, which then morphed into a philosophy of anti-consumerism creating the byproduct of an appreciation for a minimal aesthetic and functionality. it makes sense to me — and i think this home is a lovely example of that philosophy. designed by made by cohen, we’d have to ask susie cohen for certain, but regardless of any cultural reasons, the house is just light, airy and gorgeous. for the rest of this beautiful home tour, visit EST and for more projects with this inspiring aesthetic check out made by cohen.
