DIY Plastic Bag Holder

I want to start off by saying that I’m not a big fan of plastic bags. I keep cloth tote bags in the car for our big weekly shopping trip, and I know that plastic bags aren’t good for the environment. Sometimes, though, despite my best efforts, I’ll end up with a few from an unexpected grocery run or errand.

I have a very small kitchen without a pantry or closet, so my cupboard space is very precious. With that in mind, I decided to make my own bag holder that looks nice enough to hang on the wall in my kitchen. If you’re going to use (and reuse) plastic bags, they may as well have a nice place to live! –-Kathleen 

Supplies

-Marble contact paper
-Ruler
-Craft knife (and scissors)
-Pencil
-Hot glue gun
-Picture-hanging loops
-Foam core
-Mailing tube (4″ diameter)

Step 1: Use the ruler and pencil to mark two vertical lines on the mailing tube dividing it into two equal halves.

Step 2: Use the craft knife to very carefully cut along the lines you just drew. To make this bag holder, you’ll only need one half of the tube.

Step 3: Draw and cut a rectangle of foam core to fit directly behind the half tube you just cut.

Step 4: Hot glue the foam core rectangle and half tube together.

Step 5: Cut and attach pieces of marble contact paper into the interior of the top and bottom of the tube. (You can also apply a quick coat of paint to the edge of the tube if you like.)

Step 6: Cut and attach a piece of contact paper to fit over the top of the half tube and wrap it around the back edge.

Step 7: Use the craft knife to trim off any excess contact paper.

Step 8: Hot glue a picture-hanging loop onto the back of the bag holder.
